Northeast Harbor Cosmo

I am pretty sure everyone likes Cosmo’s, it’s just that a lot of people aren’t willing to admit it, or don’t dare to be seen in public consuming one. I am totally guilty of this. I think they are delicious but you won’t catch me ordering one out at a restaurant. Mainly, because if I did order one out in NYC I would feel like the biggest dorkiest touristy and I imagine the bartender would think I just got off the Sex and the City tour bus. Also, all guys I have ever met love these drinks they just don’t always want to be seen drinking a pink cocktail, true story. Anyways, this is not the point, the point is that the Cosmo, though overplayed, is in fact delightful to drink. I do not like the sugar bomb Cosmopolitan, but the more sophisticated light and tart cocktail. A few summers ago, this gorgeous looking cocktail was created in Northeast Harbor Maine, hence the name, and my family has been drinking them every since. We love them and make them at home and for friends all the time! When looking for a drink to serve for cocktails this Friday, Halloween, I thought this would be perfect!  A gorgeous and tasty drink – nothing better to start a party.

Ingredients

2 ounces of Vodka
3/4 ounces Cointreau
3/4 ounce Cranberry
1/4 ounce Fresh Squeezed Lime Juice (quick squeeze)
Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice

Directions

Shake the Vodka, Cointreau, Cranberry Juice, Lime Juice and ice vigorously in a Martini Shaker. Pour into a glass and then carefully on the side pour in Orange Juice Mixture to desired effect. The Orange Juice will rest at the bottom of the glass.

An interesting note is James prefers when the Orange Juice goes into the shaker (in the amount of 3/4 an ounce) and the Cranberry is poured to the bottom. Both ways are delicious in my mind, and maybe fun to do some one way and some the other for a stunning display. I end up mixing the two together, so it always taste the same for me! Try them both out and let me know if you prefer one.
