I hated chemistry in high school but I have always loved mixing things up in the kitchen. This started at an early age in my parents kitchen and has continued into my cooking and cocktail making. This Sunday I imagined myself on Top Chef – the challenge: make a delicious cocktail with the ingredients I had on hand. Here is the result and not to toot my own horn but it was delicious … and I am sharing with y’all!
Blackberry Mint Lemonade
makes 1 drink
2 shots of vodka
1 shot of fresh lemonade
6 blackberries (roughly)
6 mint leaves (roughly)
2 blackberries and mint for garnish
I muddled the blackberries and mint together with a Mortar and Pestle (see the picture below). I then added the blackberry mint mixture to the martini shaker with the lemonade and vodka. Shake, shake, shake! I always say try to give a good hard shake for about 20 seconds. I then used a martini strainer to add the cocktail to a glass of ice. (The martini strainer allows you to achieve your desired consistency – I personally like a little pulp and leaves, but you can add more or less if you life). Also, if you prefer a sweeter drink simply add a little simple syrup in before you shake. Voila – this may not be your typical fall cocktail, but I found that it brightened up a cold November night!
