I love avocado toast! I will make it for lunch, dinner, even a snack. My love affair with this dish began at Cafe Gitane – it’s a classic on their menu, and I can’t resist having it when I go there. Cafe Gitane in general is a perennial favorite – I have been known to eat there (get take out) on a weekly basis and I have yet to meet anyone who hasn’t been charmed by this restaurant.
Maison Kayser Bakery recently opened in the flatiron, and I have been stopping in there to
drool over the pastries pick up a loaf of their insanely delicious bread for my avocado toast. One thing to note is to truly experience this bread you need to have it that day – this bread fresh is a game changer. The only other variation I make from the toast at Gitane is that I add a little Brooklyn Wok Shop Chili Oil on top. This stuff is amazing, and I have been using it a lot in all my cooking and eating.
1 Slice of Multigrain Bread ( go ahead treat yourself with a thick slice)
Drizzle of Brooklyn Wok Shop Chili Oil
Sprinkle of Red Pepper Flakes
Toast the slice of bread with a little drizzle of Olive Oil on it. While your bread is toasting – I cut an avocado in half and spoon it out and slice it up. Once your toast is ready you simply spread the avocado onto the bread, squeeze the juice of the lemon on-top, sprinkle of pepper and chilli flakes and small drizzle of chili oil (depending on how much heat you like). You can even fancy this dish up with a little smoked salmon on top. Voila – fast, simple and delicious!
