New York City Sweats

This is my sixth year living in New York City and during my time here I have tried a lot of workouts and seen a lot of fitness fads. Working out has always been a big part of my life whether it be running, yoga, tennis or workout classes. After the summer, I always feel the need to really get back into the workout grind and hopefully get ready to slip into some leather pants for fall. Here is a list of my favorite NYC workouts right now! All of these are accessible with day passes, great for if you live in the city or are just passing through and want to get your sweat on. For me, I like variety in my workouts. I mix it up and do a different workout every day. I am also now in wedding mode – 9 months and counting and know these are the classes I am going to depend on to get me in wedding shape! In no particular order, these are the classes I have gone to over and over again and love.

SLT {Strength Lengthen and Tone} – A fantastic full body workout using a megaformer will have you sweating and your muscles shaking. This Pilates meets cardio and strength training workout will have you feeling toned in just 50 minutes and also sore the next day. (Multiple NYC locations & have taken classes with Sofia Vergara and Kyra Sedgwick)

Flex Studio – Flex has it all – Megaformer Pilates, Barre and TRX classes. I am a frequent visitor to this studio (at least twice a week) and think it provides amazing results. I love their TRX class, 30/30 Barre / Pilates, and FlexPilates class.

Barry’s Bootcamp – I love Barry’s Bootcamp! This is an insane calorie burning workout that will have you dripping with sweat. Their studio is filled with some of the most incredibly good looking people I have ever seen ready to work out hard! This fast pace class makes and an hour fly by, you split your time here between the treadmill and floor workouts. (Multiple NYC location & huge celeb following because it totally gets results)

Prana Power Yoga – My favorite NYC yoga studio. Nothing makes me feel as good as a hot yoga class and this studio has fantastic teachers and classes. This is a fast paced athletic yoga class and one of my favorite places to workout. This place can take your yoga practice to the next level and give you a incredible workout.

Modo Yoga – This is a great hot yoga studio that also has also has a fantastic facility, clean locker rooms & yoga studios. The teachers here are so nice and this is a great place for beginners to advance yogis to practice. More closely related to Bikram in style I would say, though they offer a variety of class styles and durations. (A celeb favorite as well, I have found myself sweating next to Katie Holmes on more than one occasion)

Laughing Lotus – For the yoga lover who doesn’t love a hot studio but wants a fun music fueled yoga experience this is your spot! This is a great studio to have fun, sweat, rock out and get in a great workout!

AKT in Motion – One of the most fun workouts you can do! Dance away calories at this awesome Upper East Side studio. If you are like me and have always been intrigued by Tracy Anderson but not ready to fork over money for the huge price tag this is where you should go!  (Last time I was there Kelly Ripa was also getting her workout on!)

Also, as always in NYC new gyms and studios are opening all the time and I know I can’t wait to try The Movement and  Lyons Den Power Yoga. Any other favorites out there you think I should try or that you love?
