Post Ranch Inn | Big Sur

After the wedding, James and I did a short mini moon in Big Sur, California. Neither of us had been before but it definitely did not disappoint – one of the most gorgeous places I have ever been in my life. We had the most magical two days here and I wanted to share our Big Sur Travel guide with you all. We stayed at The Post Ranch Inn, Big Sur CA, which is heaven and I think made for people on their honeymoon. The staff and facilities are beyond compare, I am always critiquing hotels and I found it impossible to find any issues with The Post Ranch.

The view from the terrace of our room. Our room had sweeping views of the Pacific and the room came with complimentary food (cheese, hummus, crackers, and lots more) as well as champagne, water and red and white wine. I could have happily lived in that room for the entire two days with the incredible views, great food, fire place and giant soaking tub that also had an incredible view. And to top it all off, I had the best massage of my life here (sorry Mandarin Oriental, someone just took your spot as numero uno). They also have two infinity spa soaking pools, that I could easily spend the day relaxing by and are open 24 hours a day!

We sat outside enjoyed wine, cheese, gossiped about the wedding and took an insane amount of photos trying to capture the gorgeous view.

My photos do not do justice to the beauty and views from the restaurant Sierra Mar, it is as if you are dining on a cliff on the edge of the world while whales casually swim by. It was perfect! James and I did the four course tasting menu with a wine pairing and both of us agree it was one of the best meals we have ever had in our life!

Breakfast is at Sierra Mar every morning and is complimentary! It was an amazing gourmet breakfast spread and was incredible to wake up and dine with view of the Pacific. After breakfast we asked the concierge for a great hike recommendation and they told us the four mile plus hike at Julia Pfeiffer Park was where we should go.

James Johnson | whatsarahknows | Big SurIt was a gorgeous and challenging hike, which I would highly recommend doing. If you notice I was the one who got to carry the backpack and waters, James was trying to slow me down on the hike I think. The loop trail at the end has insane views and if your like me and suffer from vertigo there are some challenging moments. I almost crawled across a few places, but thankfully my new husband held my hand and led the way. After the hike we had worked up a large appetite and were ready for a delicious lunch. Many people recommended Nepenthe in Big Sur so we headed there for a bite to eat.Nepenthe Big Sur

We had the most FANTASTIC lunch here, this spot is magical and the food lives up to the view! We split a heirloom tomato and mozzarella salad to start and then both had their famous Ambrosia Burger, which was maybe the best burger ever? It may have been that it was my mini moon and I hadn’t even a burger (or a carb) in over a month, but holy shit that was a delicious burger! I also had a delicious piece of key lime pie for dessert. It is a really good thing I don’t live closer to this restaurant, because I think I would have to eat there all the time…Nepenthe Big Sur | whatsarahknows

After lunch, we explored Big Sur. Went to the beach and then relaxed by one of the spa pools before dinner.

Big Sur is beautiful and relaxing and The Post Ranch Inn is just one of the most magical hotels I have ever been to. This was the perfect place for our mini moon where we could rest up and just have fun together. I am so happy we decided not to go on our honeymoon till later, because I have never been so exhausted as I was the day after our wedding. It was so lovely that we didn’t have to travel that Sunday, we just relaxed at Auberge de Soleil and talked incessantly about how much fun we had at our wedding. The next day we drove down to Big Sur, for two incredibly relaxing and fun nights. Our last night there, we opted for a more casual dinner and went to the famous Big Sur Bakery.

We had a great dinner at Big Sur Bakery, where we dined outside and had some incredible ribs. The pizza was excellent (carbo-rific) and the perfect end to our minimoon. We finished the night off with drinks with some friends we met in Big Sur at their hotel the Ventana Inn. Before driving back to San Fransico to catch our flight to NYC, we had to stop at the Big Sur Bakery one last time for some incredibly good breakfast pastries!Post Ranch Inn | Big Sur | WhatSarahKNows
